My courses rely solely on the college’s online course management system, Canvas (see here for help troubleshooting links).
As such, students are wholly responsible for having / acquiring the basic computer skills, including those needed for Canvas, BEFORE you begin the course.
It is each student's responsibility to allow themselves enough time to complete all assignments.
That includes finding an alternate working computer / internet connection & troubleshooting problems with Canvas, if any.
See the following links for assistance with using computers and Canvas, contact eLearning at ext. 3354 or elearning@greenriver.edu, or visit the library Help Desk for more personalized assistance.
Although online courses are convenient in that they allow you to “attend” and participate in the course at any time of the day or night rather than being tied to classroom sessions, they demand a lot of self-discipline.
In order to meet course learning objectives and do well on assignments, students will need to complete assigned content during the FIRST HALF of each week and weekly assignments must be completed by their respective deadlines.
In other words, if students want to do well in my courses, they should schedule their time wisely throughout the week.
"Did I miss anything important?", "What did we cover today?", "What have I missed?"
Should anything require a student to miss more than ONE WEEK of class content, it is advisable to retake the course at a more convenient time since too much of the material will be missed to adequately grasp course content or meet learning expectations.
Please note that it is the students’ responsibility to drop / withdraw from, or take an incomplete for, the course.
☑️ Be an Informed & Active Reader
Reading annotations are handwritten / typed summation of key points, ideas, and arguments contained within a a piece of persuasive / expository writing.
This will benefit readers by cultivating responsibility for one’s intellectual labor and encouraging active intellectual engagement with the content of the readings. This helps readers memorize the material as well as (for students) provides reminders when studying for quizzes and working on writing assignments. As such, students will get as much out of these annotations as they put in.
